MIT VMS Mentor Directory Help

This directory enables VMS mentors to search for other active mentors by name or other characteristics. This data comes in real-time from the VMS master database.

If you click on a name it displays the detailed profile and contact data that person has elected to share.

Click on your own name to edit those entries and choose what details to share with other mentors.

Your Profile

If you click on YOUR OWN NAME, it will take you to a page where you can edit any of the information.

IMPORTANT: This data is what is used by the VMS Office to maintain contact with you. If you change it, it will change the VMS master files.

We have also added in a questionnaire area where mentors can check off areas of mentoring and industries they feel comfortable with as well as the industries and functional areas they have knowledge of.  It will aid in some searches.

Selecting Elements From Your Profile To Publish

You can control what contact information another mentor can see in the directory.

In the personal profile view, there is a checkbox marked PUBLISH next to certain contact information. The default value is OFF (Unchecked) which means that specific piece of information is only available to the VMS office. If you check a box, it becomes visible to other mentors through the directory on the portal.

Searching

There is a Search box in the top right corner of your screen (next to the green magnifying glass). If you enter a person’s name or search term it will return a list of mentors that match.

For example, entering Pharma will show a list of mentors with that term in their profiles. You can perform multiple searches one after the other.

Any Issues

If you have any issues or questions, please send an email describing the situation to the VMS Office – vms@mit.edu
